We at Plastic Chop Bar believe that communities can make big changes.
A space which brings together people provides cohesion and encourages commitment. We focus on education and creativity to empower environmental awareness with the aim to improve the future of humans and nature by recyling plastic.
We envision Plastic Chop Bar as a place where waste becomes a resource and recycling becomes a shared community practice.
On the outskirts of Berekum, in Namasua, we want to build a house that serves as both a recycling station and a creative community hub. It will be a place where people gather to cook, exchange ideas, learn new skills, and create together. Through educational workshops, artist residencies, and community events, Plastic Chop Bar will bring together local knowledge, creativity, and environmental action.
Today, plastic waste in Namasua is collected in designated areas and burned because there are no accessible recycling opportunities. We want to change that by creating a local circular economy in which plastic remains a valuable material instead of becoming pollution.

How it works
People around Namasua and Berekum will be able to bring their plastic waste to Plastic Chop Bar in exchange for small payment through a local deposit-return ("Pfand") system. By giving plastic a tangible value, we will encourage everyone to participate in keeping their environment clean.
The collected plastic will be sorted, processed, and transformed into beautiful, functional objects - from furniture and building materials to everyday products and artworks. In this way, Plastic Chop Bar will demonstrate that waste can become a resource and that environmental care can generate social, cultural, and economic value.
Plastic Chop Bar will be more than a recycling station. It will be a place where people come together to learn, create, and build a future in which materials stay in circulation, thus, Plastic Chop Bar will contribute to a local circular economy, where waste becomes a resource instead of being burned or discarded.
